Welcome to our Store!
As a family we have always recycled, bought second hand, passed things on, received with glee things passed to us, reused and generally kept things going. We were and still are, proudly sustainable!
As a kid in the 1970s, mum and I loved nothing more than a good rummage through the local jumble sales on a Saturday morning. The passion for seeking out ‘pre-loved’, beautiful/practical, well-made items, often with an exciting story to tell, was ignited at an early age.
The thrill of seeking out such items continued throughout student and subsequent ‘proper job’ days in 1980s and 90s London and followed us to sunny Provence in the South of France for a delightful year ‘living the dream’. Several renovation projects were undertaken and most of the contents came from the unbeatable brocantes (second-hand businesses), vide greniers (‘granny’s attic’ sales) and decheteries (the local refuse centre) including original 19th C French doors!
Many of our items are still sourced from these wonderful places including Emmaus, a Catholic charity for the homeless, who do really important work and are now beginning to appear around Britain.
There is a joy for us in finding a vintage/antique item and being transported back, just for a brief yet heart-warming moment, to our grandmother’s kitchen on baking day, great grandmother’s on washday, grandfather’s shed and conservatory and father’s garage.
There is also joy in finding a desired item, a chair for the bedroom maybe, a beautiful coffee pot for your kitchen, or perhaps a stunning salvaged item to adorn your garden, that is pre-owned, knowing that it very often makes much more financial and aesthetic sense. Test this statement if you will. Enjoy the search and revel in the end result – the ownership of a beautiful/practical item which will offer you a glimpse back through the years too.
Oh, and you will be helping our poor beleaguered planet…
