In totally untouched, yet surprisingly good condition with original seating material intact, this delicate little ebonised chair is known as the Sussex Armchair. It even still has the front fascia to the seat, which has always been missing in the examples I have seen before.
This has been on my bucket list for several years now and I am very proud to own one. I found it at the little auction on the green in my village, I couldn’t believe it.
A beautiful Arts and Craft item from around 1890, this design is on display in the Victoria and Albert Museum as an iconic example of the genre.
